Ethics

The Web Science Conference 2024 adheres to the ACM Code of Ethics and ACM Policy Against Harassment. Any participant who experiences unacceptable behavior may contact the General Chairs (Prof. Dr. Steffen Staab, Sierra Kaiser).

In participating, I acknowledge ACM’s Policy Against Harassment at ACM Activities and agree that behavior such as the following will constitute grounds for actions against me:

Abusive action directed at an individual, such as threats intimidation, or bullying
Racism, homophobia, and other behavior that discriminates against a group or class of people
Sexual harassment of any kind, such as unwelcome sexual advances or words/actions of a sexual nature

If you are involved in or witness any such incident, please inform the local organizing committee.

Publications

“By submitting your article to an ACM Publication, you are hereby acknowledging that you and your co-authors are subject to all ACM Publications Policies, including ACM’s new Publications Policy on Research Involving Human Participants and Subjects. Alleged violations of this policy or any ACM Publications Policy will be investigated by ACM and may result in a full retraction of your paper, in addition to other potential penalties, as per ACM Publications Policy.”

FAQs

Q. How can I sign up for a specific workshop?

A: Use the conference registration form (https://eveeno.com/websci24) to choose which workshop you want to attend. We will inform the workshop organizers that you are registered.

Q. I already registered for the conference but didn’t select a workshop to attend. How do I get signed up now?

A: We have your registration on file and will ask you one week before the conference if you have decided which workshop to attend. If you know which workshop/tutorial you would like to attend, please let us know as soon as possible so we can inform the workshop organizers.

Q. I have been accepted to the poster session. Do I have to bring my poster, or will you print it for me?

A: You are responsible for bringing your poster to the poster session. The poster specifications can be found here: https://websci24.org/calls/call-for-posters/

Q. How will the poster be displayed?

A: Posters will be affixed to the poster boards with push pins, not tape. The conference will provide push pins.

Q. What size poster should I use?

A: The posters should be in a portrait layout. The space allocated for each poster is 48 inches (121.9cm, height) by 36 inches (91.4cm, width). We strongly recommend 48×36 posters, however, smaller posters in A0 size are acceptable.

Q. I am organizing (or am part of a team organizing) a workshop/tutorial at the conference. Do I need to register for the conference?

A: There are no special rates for workshop/tutorial organizers; everyone must register to participate. We have to bear costs regardless of why you attend, and we do not make money from the conference but rather sponsor it with time and money. Contact Sierra Kaiser if your workshop has over ten registrations (excluding your team). We can provide one rebate code (per 10 registrations) for the workshop day only.

Q. Should I send my presentation in advance or bring a flash drive (USB stick) or laptop?

A: Please bring your laptop. We will provide adapters so you can easily connect to the projector.

Q. What format should my presentation be in?

A: That is up to you. As you will be using your laptop, you can choose the best format for your content.

Q. How will I know when my presentation time is?

Q: How long should my presentation be?

A: For full papers, your presentation should be around 12 min with 3 min Q&A (for a total of 15 min), and for short papers, 8 min presentation with 2 min Q&A (for a total of 10 min).

Q. Will the session presentations be recorded?

A: Yes, we have the option to record your presentation. Authors opt in or out of video recording when they complete the ACM eRights Form. You must permit us to do so; otherwise, we will NOT record you. Q. What if I don’t want to be recorded?

A: Authors opt in or out of video recording when they complete the ACM eRights Form. We will only record if you consented to be recorded. However, you can confirm when you check in that you are on the DO NOT RECORD list.

Q. Will photos be taken during the event?

A: Yes, some photos may be taken during the event. These will be used to promote the WebSci’24 conference and our social media channels.

Q. Is there a conference app, and how do I use it?

A: Yes, there is a conference app. It is web-based and can be added to your home screen for easy access during the conference. You can log into the app to connect with other attendees, but it’s not mandatory. Link to conference app: https://websci2024.lineupr.com/acm-web-science-conference-2024

Q. Is there going to be wifi access at the conference?

A: Yes, there is free wifi access. The details for connecting are in the digital schedule/conference app: https://websci2024.lineupr.com/acm-web-science-conference-2024

Q. I am a student at the University of Stuttgart. Do I still need to register?

A: Yes, you must register for any conference you attend. We must bear the costs of running the conference regardless of where the participants come from.

Q. I have been awarded a travel grant/student grant, when will I get this funding?

A: All grants will be processed after the conference. The exact process will be announced soon.
